Dental Veneers![]() What is a Dental Veneer Used For?Besides closing gaps and making teeth look even in length, dental veneers also serve to cover dark stains. Our dentist also uses veneers for restorations. For instance, when your teeth are chipped, broken, or cracked, a veneer can help restore the functionality of the tooth. If the structure of your tooth has not been affected and is in good shape, we use veneers to restore the look of that tooth. This way, you are able to speak and eat without facing discomfort. Veneer Placement ProcedureOur dentist will first examine you to determine if veneers are the right treatment option. If the dentist approves these restorations, we will proceed to take teeth impressions. The dentist will use the impression to construct the veneers in a laboratory. We ensure that the veneers we create for you match the color, shape, as well as size of your teeth. Once we have the exact match to your teeth, it takes about a week to create them. To place the veneers, our dentist preps the tooth by filing some parts of the enamel. The purpose is to make room for the veneers to lay properly over the teeth and align with the gums. Once we have prepped the tooth, you will get temporary veneers. Usually, the aim of having a temporary veneer is to cover the filed down part of the enamel, which is often more sensitive. You will wear that veneer for a short time as the permanent restoration is getting ready, often about two weeks. Temporary veneers are secured with removable glue, therefore, you are required to refrain from consuming any food likely to push the prostheses and the glue out of place. We will request you to come back into our office after the permanent veneers are ready. Our dentist removes the temporary veneers and places the new set. If adjustments are needed, our dentist will do them right away. After the installation, you are able to flash your smile with confidence. Aftercare for VeneersYou may have sore teeth for a few days due to the preparation work done on the teeth and the placement of the veneers. You can, however, use pain medication to ensure comfort. Ensure you rest and consider using a cold compress as it helps minimize swelling. Stick with soft foods and avoid anything hard that would dislodge the veneers or damage them.
